US Workshops

One thing I enjoy almost as much as painting is sharing my love of watercolors and sketchbook journaling with others. My classes are packed with information and inspiration, and I hope my enthusiasm and organized approach to teaching helps all of my students to move ahead on their creative journey. Check the listings below for scheduled classes and workshops. If you'd like to schedule a class in your area, I'd love to talk with you. Just drop me a note via email.

Sketching at Summerhill
(These morning classes are held during times of the year when the weather is colder and days are short.)
January 31, March 14, April 25, November 21
Location: Summerhill Studio, 100 Dogwood Lane, Prosperity, PA
Mini-workshop + lunch
Thursdays, 10 am – 3 pm
Cost: $50.00, payable at the event
Registration: For directions and to register, email Leslie.

Come and join me at my home, Summerhill, in Prosperity, PA, for a series of monthly sketching and painting classes. Each month we’ll tackle a different subject and focus on how to paint it step-by-step. I’ll start with a demo to show you the painting process in real time, then, with the aid of my clear written instructions and personal assistance, you’ll paint your own version of the sample painting, adding your own unique touches to it. When we’ve finished our paintings, we’ll sit down to a delicious lunch of homemade soup, salad, and bread, followed by a time to share our most recent sketches or other artwork. This is a great opportunity to relax, learn something new, enjoy wonderful food, and peek into the sketchbooks of some fabulous artists.
NOTE: Early registrations are normally not available for Sketching at Summerhill classes. Each month, one week prior to the class, I send out an email reminder to my newsletter subscribers. (Subscribe using the link at the top of the right-hand column.) At that time, RSVP by email if you would like to attend. This policy ensures that each month there are openings available, rather than having the entire year booked in advance. Class size is limited to 15 people, and classes fill up very quickly.
If you plan to travel from out of town, let me know ahead of time, and I'll be happy to make an exception to the sign-up policy, so travel plans can be made.

We’ll begin by talking about the three stages of travel sketching, and I’ll give you concrete ideas for subject matter for each one. I’ll share my onsite sketching process and discuss realistic vs. optimistic expectations. You’ll learn how to tell your story through images and words, with options for journaling ideas and creative page layouts. All the extras will be included, too, like title pages, lettering styles, borders, collage, and inventive sketching approaches, with examples pulled from my own travel journals. It may sound like too much to fit into a 2-day class, but I’m going to try!
