US Workshops

One thing I enjoy almost as much as painting is sharing my love of watercolors and sketchbook journaling with others. My classes are packed with information and inspiration, and I hope my enthusiasm and organized approach to teaching helps all of my students to move ahead in their creative journey. Check the listings below for scheduled classes and workshops. If you'd like to schedule a class in your area, I'd love to talk with you. Just drop me a note via email.

Join me next summer and fall at my home, Summerhill, for a series of monthly sketching get-togethers. We start off each session with a step-by-step watercolor tutorial and painting time, then you'll have a chance to practice what you've learned during an independent sketching time, either indoors in the spacious studio or outdoors on the porch or in the gardens. Later, we'll gather together to share our sketches and enjoy delicious homemade hors d’oeuvres and a glass of wine. This is what summer is all about - taking the time to relax and enjoy those beautiful days we wait for all winter long. So stay awhile, sketch a bit, settle into the porch swing, and visit with your sketching buddies at Summerhill.

Watercolor Sketching in San Francisco
Location: San Francisco, CA
5-day workshop, Tuesday - Saturday, with departure on Sunday
Registration: Visit www.frenchescapade.com for all the details

Come along with me to San Francisco and paint the city's most famous and iconic sites, like the Golden Gate Bridge, Fisherman’s Wharf, the colorful Queen Anne-style “Painted Ladies”, and much more.  All the logistics will be taken care of – all you have to do is relax and enjoy as we sketch our way through the city. Then we’ll venture out of town for a visit to the spectacular wine country of Sonoma to paint scenes that echo the colors and look of Tuscany. And you’ll record it all in your own unique travel journal.

Our focus will be on illustrated watercolor journaling. You’ll learn how to add style and interest to your sketchbook pages through the use of unique page layouts and borders, and I’ll give you plenty of great ideas for fun new lettering styles that will enhance your sketches. I’ll share my sketching process from start to finish and offer daily demonstrations of techniques for painting the subjects you’ll encounter each day. Each student will be given a spiral-bound book containing all the information covered in the workshop. The handout ensures that you can relax during the workshop, knowing that even if you can’t absorb it all while we’re together, you’ll have complete information that you can refer to for years to come. This workshop is suitable for all levels, but some experience with drawing and watercolor would be helpful.
