Winter Painting Retreat in West Virginia

Do you love getting together with other sketchers? I do, and I know I’m going to miss my sketching buddies over the holidays since I don’t have any classes planned between now and January. So I’ve arranged for a fun way for us to reconnect in the new year…
A Winter Painting Retreat
at
Stonewall Resort
Roanoke, WV
January 8-10, 2017

Of course, things will look a bit different at Stonewall Resort in the wintertime than they do in the photo above, but that’s okay. We’re going to be snug and warm in the lodge with a big fire roaring in the fireplace.

The lodge at Stonewall Resort is beautiful and the setting is idyllic, right on a lake with views of the surrounding mountains. The resort is 90 miles south of me and about two hours from Pittsburgh, PA, just off Interstate 79.

The restaurants serve wonderful food, and I think it will feel SO GOOD to have someone else do the cooking for me for a few days, after all the kitchen time I’ll be putting in over the holidays.

I’ve reserved a large meeting room where we’ll have room to spread out and paint to our hearts’ content. It has windows overlooking the lake and it’s just around the corner from the coffee shop and lobby. Doesn’t it sound like a great place to cozy up on a cold winter day?

We’ll talk and paint and encourage each other as we work on new sketches or finish up a travel journal. I’ll be working on my 2016 Italy sketchbook – I have so many unpainted pages that I still haven’t gotten to, and I’m looking forward to having some uninterrupted time to work on it.

I won’t be doing any formal teaching during the retreat, but will gladly offer advice if anyone needs it while working on their sketches. Won’t it be fun to bounce ideas off each other and be inspired by what everyone is working on? I can just imagine the energy in that room!

SCHEDULE
Sunday, January 8

Arrive at Stonewall Resort in time for early check-in at noon. Settle into your room, then we’ll gather in the conference room to paint all afternoon. We’ll have dinner together, then in the evening you’ll be free to either paint, hang out in the library and read a good book, play games (Rummikub anyone?), or just do your own thing.
Monday, January 9

You’ll have all day to paint, go for walks, enjoy lunch and dinner together, etc.
Tuesday, January 10

Paint in the conference room until our noon check-out time.
COST
Double room $200.00 per person
Single room $320.00 per person
(These prices are approximate. The final cost for the retreat may be lower, depending on how many people register.)
The price includes two nights lodging and use of the conference room and all resort amenities (indoor pool, jacuzzi, fitness center, steam and sauna rooms, high-speed wireless internet service, hiking trail, etc.)

The price does not include meals. There are two restaurants in the lodge, both of which serve excellent food at resonable prices.

Please let me know by December 1 if you would like to attend. Email me to register or with questions.

This will be a nice break after the busyness of the holiday season, so why not treat yourself to an early Christmas present and sign up today? You deserve it! 🙂
