2019 News...

  • January 2019 - The Summerhill Sketchers gathered once again at Oglebay Resort in Wheeling, WV, for our 3rd Annual Winter Painting Retreat. We painted, laughed, ate, drank, took long walks, and talked until the wee hours of the night. It was the perfect girlfriend getaway!

2018 News...
  • November 2018 - San Clemente Art Supply invited me back to teach two workshops for an enthusiastic group of west coast students. We sketched on location at Casa Romantica and Mission San Juan Capistrano, and the weather was perfect for my entire visit!
  • September 2018 - A week-long workshop in Sicily opened my eyes to the rich history of this part of Italy. We visited ancient Greek temples, medieval cathedrals, salt pans, city markets, and picturesque coastal villages. Villa Salinara was the perfect home base for our explorations of the island.  
  • August 2018 - The Blue Ridge Mountains called me back in late summer when I taught a "Step-by-Step Watercolor" workshop at Cheap Joe's Art Stuff in Boone, NC. My students did an amazing job with all the lessons, and we painted everything from a crashing ocean wave to a delicate pink rose. I auctioned off my small demo paintings to raise money for the Greene County Humane Society here in my home town and raised over $300 from my generous, puppy-loving students! 
  • June 2018 - Back-to-back workshops in midcoast Maine kept me busy in early June. We had painting lessons in our spacious cottage, then visited lots of great sketching spots on our daily excursions. But my favorite time there was spent just relaxing with the special women who joined us at Primrose Cottage, sitting on the porch watching day turn to dusk, walking on the beach, looking for heart-shaped rocks, and enjoying delicious home-cooked meals together.
  • May 2018 - "Sketchbook Journaling Comes to Life" at Cheap Joe's Art Stuff in Boone, NC - Cheap Joe's is the best place I've found to teach or take a class, and the week I spent there this spring was perfect from start to finish. I can't say enough about the wonderful facilities and staff, and my students were a great bunch, all happy to be there and ready to learn. I can't wait to return in August for another workshop.
  • April 2018 - Our spring painting retreat at Alpine Lake, WV, was a lot of fun despite the cool, rainy weather we experienced. Any time I have a chance to paint with my buddies for days on end and enjoy good food, talks, and walks, is a good time.
  • March 2018 - A full class of ten hearty souls braved the wintry weather to join me at Summerhill for a three-day "Sketch Your Life! An Introduction to Sketchbook Journaling" workshop in March. I can't think of a better way to spend a few early spring days than with a group of happy sketchers.

  • February 2018 - Selby Gardens in Sarasota, Florida, was the perfect setting for "Painting Flowers with Watercolor", a two-day workshop where we painted hibiscus, roses, orchids, poinsettias, and more. Plus, we made accordion-fold sketchbooks to fill with our flower paintings.
  • January 2018 - For my first workshop at Keeton's Art Supply in Bradenton, Florida, I taught a two-day "Sketch Your Life!" class. A great facility and enthusiastic students made it a wonderful experience, one I'll be repeating in 2019 with my new "Sketchbook Journaling Explorations" workshop.

2017 News...
  • December 2017 - The December/January 2018 issue of Mary Jane's Farm magazine featured a six-page article about my work and the joys of sketchbook journaling. I was thrilled to see my sketches in print!
  • October 2017 - My first trip to the Greece! I had twelve blissful days of teaching, exploring, and discovering all that Athens, Amorgos, Naxos, and Santorini had to offer. Gorgeous scenery, great new friends, delicious food, and spectacular scenery all added up to one fantastic workshop tour.
  • September 2017 - I returned to Tuscany for my third workshop at Fattoria Bacio, near Florence. We had a wonderful week of sketching, touring, relaxing, learning, and eating the yummiest food anywhere!
  • August 2017 - Twelve eager sketchers gathered in my home studio for "Sketch It Now: Capturing the Moment in Your Sketchbook Journal", a two-day workshop that builds on the skills learned in my introductory course.
  • June 2017 - A trip to Provence was a dream come true for me. My workshop group of thirteen women sketched and painted our way through villages and lavender fields in the area around St. Remy-de-Provence and even walked in the footsteps of Vincent van Gogh, painting the same olive trees that he did.
  • April 2017 - At my home studio in Ruff Creek, PA, my introductory sketchbook journaling workshop, "Sketch Your Life", gave a new group of sketchers the tools they needed to get started on a their own creative journey.
  • February 2017 - My "Sketching on Location" class in San Clemente took place at two beautiful locations along the coast: Casa Romantica and The Casino, both historic venues that offered a wealth of subject matter for me and my students.
  • February 2017 - I developed a brand new class for my return to San Clemente Art Supply in California this year. "Sketch It Now: Capturing the Moment in Your Sketchbook Journal" was a big hit - the students loved the new page layout ideas and border designs that I introduced.
  • January 2017 - Students from Florida and as far away as Colorado gathered at Marie Selby Botanical Gardens in Sarasota, Florida, for a three-day step-by-step watercolor workshop featuring lessons on subjects ranging from beaches and rocks to crashing oceans waves. 

2016 News...
  • October 2016 - Tuscany is beginning to feel like a second home to me now, after spending almost three weeks there this fall. Back-to-back workshops kept me busy, but I had a wonderful time sharing all of my favorite places with twenty very happy women. Their enthusiasm made my job of teaching an absolute joy.
  • October 2016 - An autumn composite sketch was the subject of the last Summerhill Sketching workshop of the 2016 season. We all look forward to the special time we have together each month to paint, eat some great food, and share what we've been working on.
  • June 2016 - I returned to Owls Head, Maine, for my annual sketching workshop at Primrose Cottage. It's one of my favorite weeks out of the year, and I always love getting to know my students in this very special small-group setting.
  • May 2016 - Cheap Joe's Art Stuff in Boone, NC, is the best venue in the country for art workshops, and I was fortunate to be one of the lucky painting teachers chosen to be included on their roster for 2016. I had a full class of 25 students for my Sketchbook Journaling comes to Life workshop. It was an incredible week, and I can't wait to return in 2018!
  • March 2016 - My monthly "Sketching at Summerhill" events started up again and will continue through October, with painting lessons, great food, and a chance to share our work with like-minded friends.
  • March 2016 - My 4-week "Introduction to Watercolor" class, taught here at Summerhill Studio, helped a group of tentative beginners grow their skills with watercolor.
  • February 2016 - I returned to San Clemente Art Supply (in San Clemente, CA) to teach a 3-day "Step-by-Step Watercolor: Earth, Sea, and Sky" workshop to a group of 22 students. My step-by-step instructions helped them to gain confidence in painting a wide variety of subject matter.
  • January 2016 -  A workshop in sunny Sarasota, Florida, is just the ticket to beat the winter blues, and my 2-day "Sketch Your Life!" workshop at Marie Selby Botanical Gardens was a big hit. The enthusiasm of the students made my time there so much fun, and several of them have become regular sketchers since taking the class.
